Conductor James MacMillan (Scotland)

James MacMillan, a Scottish composer celebrating his 60th birthday this year, is one of the most outstanding representatives of his generation. His music is closely connected to spiritual texts, as are the works by Arvo Pärt. As a conductor of Arvo Pärt Days, MacMillan makes the Noblessner's foundry sound with the two different pieces, created by the two composers at different times. They are united by the Sarah and Abraham biblical story of the Old Testament, getting us to think of looking for reconciliation in our common past at these disturbing times. It is a unique opportunity in Tallinn to experience the intercourse between the two special creators' works in Tallinn: to hear James MacMillan conducting the concert performance of his 2010 chamber opera Clemency and interpreting his contemporary colleague's, Arvo Pärt's, chamber piece Sarah was ninety years old, created 30 years earlier.

Tickets are available in Piletilevi from 20 May.
