07.06HIIUMAA ISLAND, 7 June 6 pm, Suuremõisa manor CYRILLUS KREEK DAYS 2019: VILLAGE THROATSCYRILLUS KREEK DAYS 2019 in Haapsalu, on Hiiumaa and Saaremaa islands This is already the 13th Cyrillus Kreek's Days in Nargenfestival, heralding the beginning of summer, keeping alive the works of the prominent Estonian composer for his hometown's people and searching for a novel perspective for his rich musical heritage. This summer Kreek's music will also reach Saaremaa and Hiiumaa people. In Haapsalu and on Hiiumaa and Saaremaa islands we present six concerts with two different programmes: ensemble Heinavanker, performing Kreek's Orthodox church songs in Estonian, and folk singers Meelika Hainsoo, Celia Roose and Lauri Õunapuu singing their arrangements of folk songs from both Kreek's collection as well as from village people of his time. The art director of Cyrillus Kreek's Days is Tõnu Kaljuste. VILLAGE THROATS Village songs evening Folk songs from C.Kreek's collection and village singers of his time Meelika Hainsoo (song, Hiiumaa zither, violin) Lauri, Meelika and Celia are three authentic country people from Karula parish, whose greatest passion is old music – especially Estonian folk songs. When those three start a song, then the whole village sings along – from elders to children. As the trio are also good instrumentalists, some works are also performed with accompaniment. You can sing along folk songs from the inexaustible Cyrillus Kreek's folk collection as well as from the treasury of Kreek's contemporary village singers. Celia, Lauri and Meelika will make sure their songs still ring in your head long after the performance. |
